Barley Grass - the ultimate superfood

For many years during my children’s early lives, we struggled financially as I was a single mum of 4 (2 of them back-to-back babies!) So, if you ask my daughter about “fry bread,” she’ll probably dry wretch!

Our meals were often beige, with very little variety. Fresh fruit and vegetables weren’t something I could afford to provide the recommended 5+ servings of per child each day. So, we did the best we could with what we had.

Even though money was tight, I was passionate about natural medicine and dedicated to researching healthy solutions. As a mother, I wanted to do everything I could to support my children’s health – even if it meant making small, affordable changes. Through my research, I discovered the incredible benefits of barley grass – a powerful, nutrient-rich superfood that could help fill the nutritional gaps in our diet.

Despite our financial challenges, I found that incorporating barley grass into our routine was a simple yet affordable and effective way to boost our family’s health, particularly because, as I’d had my last two babies in my late 30’s, I KNEW that I needed something that REALLY covered all of the bases for women over 30 (who literally couldn’t afford to get sick) and for children’s health, because, back then, there were no free doctors for under 12s.

So, I would literally serve the kids up their plain chicken and rice dinner and then tell them to have a shot of barley grass, because that was LITERALLY their side-veg!

And to this very day, I STILL tell them to take shots, no matter how many veges are on their plate!

They’re like “Mum, I feel sick”
and I reply, “Barley grass!”

“Mum, Ive got an ear ache”
and I reply, “Barley grass!”
“Mum, I’ve lost a leg”
“Barley Grass”

HAHAHAHAHA!

Because the thing about Barley grass is that it’s not JUST a good vege replacement if you don’t have the income for fresh veges. But research shows that barley grass is rightly classed as a superfood and it contains most of the nutrients we need for good health every day.
But it also has may other health benefits as well. These are 3 of the most important (in my mind), but there are tons and tons of other ones as well.

Alkalizes the body

When the body becomes overly acidic, it can cause inflammation and increase the risk of various health issues. On the other hand, following an alkalizing diet helps to restore balance to your pH levels, reducing acidity. By creating a more alkaline environment, your body can perform at its best.

Detoxifies the Body:

Barley grass is known for its ability to help detoxify the body by supporting liver function and eliminating toxins, thanks to its chlorophyll content.

Reduces Inflammation:

Several studies suggest that barley grass may help decrease markers of inflammation, which can be beneficial for conditions like arthritis or other chronic inflammatory diseases. Its high chlorophyll content, in particular, is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce oxidative stress and support the immune system.

And there are countless reasons why Barley Grass is a fantastic choice, but the best one? It’s EASY. For busy women (and just people, in general) juggling everything, isn’t it a relief to find a health hack that requires zero extra effort? It’s like giving yourself -and/or your kids -the gift of better health without adding to your relentless to-do list.

Because let’s face it, life is complicated enough – but your health really doesn’t have to be!
